Questions.

It’s totally up to you and your comfort temperature preference; some of us like it cool and others prefer warmer rooms. The average temperature I have seen in more than ten thousand homes I have served is 68-70 F (20-21 C) during the day when they are home and 64 F (17 C) at night when they are sleeping.

A programmable thermostat keeps room temperatures how you like them. They save money. They are not as expensive as many people think. With newer, programmable, WiFi-connected thermostats you can adjust room temperature from anywhere in the
world.

It depends to many things, such as house size and the number of rooms you have in your house, if you have a pet that sheds a lot, or if you are allergic to dust and air contaminants. The time range for replacing or cleaning your filter is generally from 1-3 months. There are some special filters that are thicker and can last longer. Some 4” thick filters can work for 9 months or even a year.

Clean the filter regularly and ensure your thermostat has good batteries. The maintenance that we offer at Mannix includes 30 points checking of your system plus safety checks.

It depends on many factors. How often you run your system, the system’s age, the house age. For some areas in colder areas of BC people have their system serviced twice a year. In the Vancouver area once a year is the average number of annual service.

You should check these before calling any technician to help you out:

  • Check your filter
  • Check your circuit breaker
  • Ensure your system has power
  • Ensure your thermostat’s batteries are good

The average life expectancy of your system depends on many factors. How often you run your system, its age, make and model, and whether or not it was serviced regularly over the course of its life. All these factors play a significant role in how long your system will last you. You can expect your furnace and/or air conditioner to last approximately 15 years. A heat pump can last 16+ years.

The brand and makes of heating and cooling appliances have different prices; however, labour is the other part of new appliance installation. If your old system is in the mid-efficiency range and you are switching to a highly efficient system, the labour will be a little higher. A new furnace will cost you $3,800 to $5,800 on average and a new AC ductless will cost you $4,000 to $6,000. These are just ballpark numbers and might not be exact numbers for many cases.

Ductless AC systems were started in Japan 40 some years ago and the main brands are coming from Japan. Ductless systems have two parts, one part inside the room, called head, with a remote control. The other part, called the outdoor unit serves as the main part of cooling production by using refrigerant and a compressor.

AC produces cold air and heat pump produces both heat and cool in the same system. Both AC and heat pumps use the refrigerant material and mechanism.

Yes, the air quality tests prove that air quality is much better with an electric filter. Electric filters need regular service like other HVAC systems.

Closing air registers will change the air balance through your house and is not advised by professional HVAC Technicians.

There are several reasons that cause this problem; you should check your filter. With a clean filter, if you still see this problem, you should call professional technicians to resolve it for you.
